GKD Industries Ltd. provides custom machining services for the oil and gas industry's leading service companies. We pride ourselves on our ability to manufacture the most intricate pieces to tight tolerances, and our ability to strictly honour the confidential nature of our customers' products and designs.
One of our strengths is our physical assets: our facility and our equipment. We have recently moved into a modern 21,000 square foot manufacturing facility located in Calgary, Alberta’s Foothills Industrial Park that has significantly increased our capacity. We have manual and CNC lathes with swings of up to 32" over bed and bores of up to 9". Our manual mills and CNC machining centres have complete 4th axis capability. We also have ejector-drilling capability of up to 36" depth and 2 1/2" I.D. together with gun-drilling capability of up to 30" depth and 1 1/16" I.D. A sophisticated Computer Aided Design and Machining (CAD/CAM) System centrally controls our CNC equipment. This modern machining capability is maintained at peak efficiency by a rigorous maintenance schedule and regular capital expenditures.
Our greatest strength, however, is our well-trained and dedicated work force. We strive to train our machinists in-house and actively support the Alberta Apprenticeship Program. At any given time we have a number of apprentices in training to meet our growing need for well-trained machinists. All machinists, including Journeymen, receive constant training and have their tooling regularly calibrated as part of our ISO Quality System.
While we have excellent all-round machining capability, our expertise is machining downhole and surface equipment for the oil and gas industry in accordance with API standards. We are very familiar with the materials required for the oil and gas industry's high pressure and difficult service environments, including significant experience machining exotic nickel-base alloys. Because we understand the oil and gas industry, we also understand that the unexpected can happen and a part or tool is required "ASAP" to minimize the economic consequences of a downed rig or a delayed job. Our production team has the training and experience to deal with these situations in a timely manner.
GKD provides custom machining within an ISO registered Quality System. Quality is maintained and verified throughout the manufacturing process, beginning with order acceptance, through in-process and final inspections, and ending with the shipment of a quality product. Our Quality Assurance personnel utilize top quality inspection equipment (including hydrostatic pressure testing equipment), maintained and calibrated in accordance with rigorous standards. We are experienced with the thorough documentation required by today's oil and gas industry and maintain complete traceability and inspection documentation on file for a minimum of seven years.
